Prof. Antonio Ceriello
Prof Antonio Ceriello is a Research Consultant at IRCCS MultiMedica, Milan, and Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine at Luigi Vanvitelli University, Naples. He previously held positions at IDIBAPS (Barcelona), IRCCS MultiMedica, the University of Warwick, and the University of Udine.
A leading researcher in diabetes, Prof Ceriello has published over 500 papers, with an h-index of 127 (Google Scholar) and 108 (SCOPUS). He has served as a consultant for the U.S. National Institutes of Health and contributed to guidelines for the American Heart Association, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). He currently chairs the EASD’s Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases (D&CVD) Study Group.
He has played a key role in the development of major international guidelines, including the 2019 ESC guidelines on diabetes, the 2022 international consensus on CGM metrics, and the 2024 statement on diabetic myocardial disorder. He is also a member of the EAPC-ESC Risk Factors Task Force and leads the IDF Position Statement on post-load plasma glucose in diabetes diagnosis.
Prof Ceriello has held leadership roles in IDF Europe, the AMD, and the AMD Foundation. He has been an associate editor for Diabetes Care and Diabetic Medicine and is currently Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Camillo Golgi Prize (2004) and the Somogyi Award (2023). He is Special Advisor to IDF Europe (2023-2025) and will chair the 2025 IDF World Congress.
