Study Groups
The EASD has set itself the aim of promoting a wide-ranging yet high-quality dialogue in the field of diabetes research. A key component of this are Study Groups, which focus on specific areas of diabetes research and bring together leading experts in these fields. While the Study Groups are independent of the EASD, they can act as reference groups in their respective fields of expertise and thus actively contribute to specialised conferences, workshops and scientific sessions, often as part of the EASD Annual Meeting. The following Groups act as reference Groups for the EASD:
Diabetes and Cognitive Function Study Group
The Diabetes and Cognitive Function Study Group (CogniD) aims to promote advocacy, education and research in the evolving field of cognitive dysfunction which is now recognised as a long-term sequel of diabetes. CogniD especially provides expertise and guidance on this rapidly emerging area of research and clinical care.
Diabetes Education Study Group
The Diabetes Education Study Group (DESG) focuses on improving diabetes prevention and self-management through high-quality patient education, professional training, and evidence-based guidance. It brings together experts who develop educational standards, tools, and research to strengthen healthcare providers’ capacity to support people living with diabetes.
Diabetic Foot Study Group
The Diabetic Foot Study Group (DFSG) aims to promote an advancement of knowledge on all aspects of diabetic foot care through active co-operation and collaboration between endocrinologists, diabetologists, podiatrists, specialist nurses, orthopaedic and vascular surgeons and other specialists with an interest in caring for diabetic patients with foot problems.
Diabetes Inpatient Study Group
The Diabetes Inpatient Study Group's (DISG) vision is to advance and transform inpatient diabetes care by championing high-quality, evidence-based, and consensus-driven practices, ensuring optimal outcomes for individuals with diabetes throughout their hospital stay and beyond.
Diabetes and Nutrition Study Group
Since 1982, the Diabetes and Nutrition Study Group (DNSG) is working to realise better scientific interchange on clinical and metabolic effects of nutrition in relation to diabetes.
Diabetes Pregnancy Study Group
The Diabetes Pregnancy Study Group (DPSG) is an organisation for professionals with a scientific interest in diabetes and pregnancy. Since its establishment in the late 1960’s the aim of the DPSG has been dedicated to improving the detection and management of diabetes in pregnant women and their offspring by fostering research, treatment and education in the subject of diabetic pregnancy.
European Diabetes Epidemiology Group
The primary goals of the European Diabetes Epidemiology Study Group (EDEG) are to lead and facilitate epidemiological research in diabetes, its risk factors and complications, and to act as a forum for collaboration, discussion and dissemination of expertise and knowledge.
European Diabetic Nephropathy Study Group
The European Diabetic Nephropathy Study Group (EDNSG) brings together diabetes specialists with a particular interest in kidney disease across the full spectrum of basic, translational, and clinical research.
Health Services Research and Health Economics Study Group
The Health Services Research and Health Economics Study Group (HSRHE-SG) fills gaps in diabetes-related health services research and health economics in conjunction with clinical research and practice. It aims to consolidate existing research activities and further expand and develop them by incorporating patient-centred care and, in particular, patient preferences in diabetes treatment, as well as health economic aspects of diabetes complications.
International Hypoglycaemia Study Group
The International Hypoglycaemia Study Group (IHSG) is an independent, not-for-profit collaboration of global experts in diabetes and endocrinology that provides international leadership in defining standards, informing policy, and raising awareness about hypoglycaemia, while working to improve its understanding, prevention, and management in diabetes care.
Diabetic Neuropathy Study Group
The Diabetic Neuropathy Study Group (NEUROdiab) has special responsibility for promoting knowledge, research, and education in diabetic neuropathy by fostering collaboration among preclinical and clinical researchers, mentoring young researchers and favoring connections between diabetologists and other specialists like neurologists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, urologists, and pain experts.
