Andrew Advani

Dr. Andrew Advani is a Staff Endocrinologist and Clinician Scientist/Associate Professor at St. Michael’s Hospital (Toronto) and University of Toronto, Canada. He is the current Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at St. Michael’s Hospital and he holds the Keenan Chair in Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital and University of Toronto.

Andrew completed his medical training at Edinburgh University in the UK in 1996, obtained his PhD at Newcastle University (UK) in 2003 and was appointed on staff at St. Michael’s Hospital in 2008. Andrew’s research program is focused on improving the lives of people living with diabetes, with an emphasis on translational research into diabetes complications, especially kidney disease and heart disease.

He has authored approximately 100 peer-reviewed publications and three book chapters. His clinical interests are in the care of people living with diabetes, especially young people living with Type 1 diabetes. Andrew is an Advisory Board member of Diabetologia, journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and an ex-officio member of the EASD Guidelines Oversight Committee.
