Report from EASD Robert Turner Clinical Research Training Course

9 - 12 April 2024 in Oxford, UK

It can confidently be said that the week far exceeded expectations. From start to finish, the course was executed to near perfection, offering an enriching experience. Living and learning in Oxford was an adventure in itself.

The group's dynamic was remarkable, and it was amazing how quickly 17 strangers became a tightly knit team. We are genuinely curious to see where the careers of our peers will lead them.

The course was brimming with crucial information, and despite feeling nearly overwhelmed by the abundance of seminars and lectures, it was captivating throughout. Five days of intensive training awaited us, focusing on designing and delivering clinical experiments in diabetes and endocrinology, critical appraisal of scientific evidence, clinical research methodology, and statistical analysis.

Seventeen young early-career medical doctors and junior scientists from all corners of the globe came together. We were privileged to learn from outstanding lecturers, scientific advisors, and mentors against the beautiful backdrop of Oxford University and Keble College.

We feel truly grateful that EASD took a chance on us and provided this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn and become part of an invaluable network. We also extend our gratitude to Lilly Diabetes for their very generous grant.
